What's A Teleclass?

Training Without Any Travel

Teleclasses are live, interactive training classes just like attending an in-person workshop, but instead of driving, parking and making sure your hair is combed,
all you need is Time and a Phone!  Bring your curiosity along with pen and paper. Classes are delivered through a state-of-the-art teleconference bridge system, a telephone line that allows groups of two or more to be on the line at the same time.  Because we meet virtually, we have participants from everywhere across the country joining on the call.  Imagine the time and money you save.

Unless otherwise stated, the standard time zone listed for the teleclasses is EST or EDT.  If you are not sure how that converts to your time zone, visit www.timeanddate.com.  Make sure that you put the time on your schedule and call in at the correct time.

How does it work?

The minimum technical requirement to participate is access to a phone and an e-mail account.  Teleclasses take place over the telephone so you can join wherever there is a phone.  When you register and pay for the class, you will receive an email with a bridge line and pin code at least 48 hours in advance of the teleclass so access to email is necessary.

At the designated time, simply dial the bridge number provided, entering the PIN number issued to you after you registered and you automatically enter the teleconference.

The bridge line is muted throughout the teleclass to eliminate excessive background noises that may be heard on the line.  However, if you have questions after the training, up to a 15 minute coaching session can be scheduled to answer follow-up
questions about the teleclass material.

TeleClasses are a great way to learn, because of the convenience from your home, office or anywhere else.  It's an easy, convenient, economical way to get the information you need to improve your job search.  All teleclasses are recorded, so you may request a copy to listen at your leisure.

How much does it cost?

In addition to the nominal fee to register for the class, the cost to call the bridge line is a standard long distance
charge.  There are no conference fees, so only your long distance carrier rates apply.  Most phone providers charge between $3-6 per hour for long distance for the length of a teleclass, so your cost is minimal.  Be sure to check with your own phone provider for rates.

TeleClass Guidelines

To honor the classroom and support a high quality learning environment, we request that all participants dial using a traditional landline phone.  Speaker phones, cordless phones and cellular phones can bring static on the line.

Remove Distractions

Take care to remove any background noises such as a baby crying, barking dog, television or any other distractions which could interrupt the class.  If a participant's telephone line creates a disturbance (echoing, static, etc.) and using mute does not resolve the issue, the participant may be asked to drop the call and dial back from another phone.

Headsets

Headsets are highly recommended for comfort during the call.  You may find a wireless headset to be very comfortable and convenient.

Cellular Phone Usage

While not recommended, if a cellular phone is used to allow hands free participation for note taking, please be considerate of others to remove noise distractions.  Calling from any phone where there is movement could result in the call being removed from the teleconference.

Joining the Call

When you dial in, participants will hear a beep so everyone knows someone new has joined the call, but no one will know who it is.  When you hear the leader say, "Hi, who just joined the call?" say something such as "Hi, this is John Doe from California."  The leader will check against the registration list to see that all registrants are present.

Late Arrival to the Call

If you are late joining the teleclass, no problem; just dial in and remain silent until you catch on to what is being discussed.  The leader may or may not formally welcome you and probably won't so as to not disturb the flow of the call.

Leaving the Call

Do not place your phone on hold nor answer a three-way call during a teleclass session.  If you must temporarily leave the call, quietly place the phone down and return to the call when you're readyIf line noise becomes too distracting and the problem cannot be corrected, the leader may ask participants to hang up and call back in to the same or an alternate backup bridge line number.
